Who is the King of email?

The statics from the above images are quite staggering, no doubt.

If you had to guess what someones email address is and you knew the first part of it, the first part being there username would you be able to add an @gmail.com at the end and send them an email?

Think about it for a little bit, surely it is not that obvious, and with the overlap of names around the world it probably would not work.

But your odds of getting that email delivered to someone other than Sam Jones or Mary Jones go up as the name gets unique.

So I will go ahead and go with the idea that if you can get your email delivered to your customers Gmail inbox your other customers will most likely get their email as well, as most email services are going to follow the rules that Gmail is setting for what is SPAM and what is not SPAM.

Ok, now that we all agree, or disagree doesn't really matter, the point of this post is to talk about getting your email delivery rates up, which means getting out of the SPAM folder, or as we move into 2018 understanding that the Social and Promotions tabs that most people have in there Gmail accounts are the NEW SPAM folder.

By the way I do not have these folders as I never "upgraded" to the new look Gmail, but I have new accounts that automatically have these tabs at the top.

So if you were like me and are asking yourself, what in the world are you talking about?

Let me show you real quick:

Here is what my old school, created sometime in 2005 Gmail account looks like still:

Ok, so now we are all on the same page, let's move on and get back to the topic of this post.

Are Gmail Folders Social and Promotions the new SPAM folder?

Short answer is yes.

But that brings on a few more questions as a internet marketer:

  • How do you stay out of these folders?
  • Can you stay out of these folders?
  • How do you know if your emails are going into these folders?

Here is the deal these folders and even the old SPAM folder do not really work the way they used to work, meaning the rules for SPAM have changed and are constantly changing.

Can you beat this system, beat it I will say no can you understand it and work with knowing that they exist, yes.

Let me show you what I mean:

Step #1

Create 3 new Gmail accounts for testing

Step #2

Create a new SPAM TEST list in your autoresponder

Step #3

Add the 3 new Gmail accounts a subscribers to your new SPAM TEST list

Step #4

Create email broadcasts and send to your 3 new Gmail accounts

Step #5

Verify which folder they land in

Step #6

Test this with different message types and keywords and phrases

So will this guarantee that your emails get delivered, No it will not.

But it will show you where your emails are going when you send them, and it is all about testing and understanding the way all this Internet stuff works and how it works together.

Another quick test for straight SPAM check is to use services like,

Ok 30 Minute Marketers, get out there and get testing your email.

As with all things and marketing online you have to test and see for yourself and understand what is going on out there with the 1's and 0's as well as the understanding why people buy.
